FBI sources have confirmed this to three news the Cincinnati inquirer reports that the speaker has been arrested in connection with what u.s department of justice is calling a public corruption racketeering conspiracy involving 60 million dollars reports is that this is tied to a controversial bill that was bailing out two Ohio nuclear plants this was house bill 6 and it was
signed by governor mike DeWine in June and in the bill it called for using ratepayer fees fora one billion dollar bailout for the plants in northern Ohio the bill would have Ohio consumers pay150 million dollars a year to rescue financially failing David Bessey plant near the oak harbor and the perry plant.
which is east of Cleveland house bill 6 required customers to pay surcharges on their
monthly electric bills in order to fund this bailout now those surcharges ranged
from 85 cents for register for residential customers to as much as 2 400 for industrial factories first, energy solution owned both plants at the time and without this
bailout there were plans to make closures there was an effort to overturn this bailout but well-funded the competition did stop that effort to overturn the bailout some of that competition included the generation now which is a 501 c 4 organization that was not required to disclose donors under federal law this is what we commonly refer to as a dark money organization this group reportedly hired people to block signature collectors to get in their way to try to stop the organization of opposition to that bailout another group
that was competing against people who were trying to overturn the bailout is called Ohioans for energy security.
they paid for millions in advertisements including ones that warned Ohioans that
Chinese were taking over ohio’s power grid.
now householder is a big name in Ohio politics he was first ohio’s house a speaker from 2001 to 2004 and this is not the first FBI investigation into householder in 2004 there were
allegations that householder and his aides took kickbacks from vendors and traded legislation for campaign contributions that investigation ended in 2006 with no charges filed but householder was not in the office at the time not in the Ohio house he left the Ohio house in 2004 due to term limits but he returned to the Ohio House in 2017 and became a speaker of the house again in 2019 that is when he led the charge for this bailout that was
signed into law by governor mike DeWine there were also other individuals
